We love where we live!

Through the open glass walls of our church you will see trees. Our sanctuary links us to nature.

We are in New England. You will find trails through the woods, rustic stone walls, and quaint historic towns.

We are on the coast. We have a beautiful beach for picnics or strolling at sunset. There’s sailing, kayaking, fishing, and more. We’re close to Rhode Island, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Cape Cod, and Boston.

But in other respects we’re not typical of New England. That’s because we’re only an hour from New York City. Our area is sophisticated and cosmopolitan. We’re home to many commuters and professionals. We tend to be well educated and high achieving. The schools are excellent.

Culturally rich

Westport has long been a haven for artists, writers, and entertainment celebrities. We’re home to the Westport Country Playhouse (featuring Broadway actors) and the Levitt Pavilion for the performing arts. A short distance away are the Quick Center (at Fairfield University), the Long Wharf Theater and the Yale Repertory Theater (in New Haven), and the symphony orchestras of Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, and New Haven. The Westport Public Library, the hub of the community, is about to embark on a major expansion.

All in all, this a most interesting and stimulating area, the best of all possible worlds. Our congregation reflects that – it’s a fascinating mix of talented, creative individuals. We love music and the performing arts. We don’t hesitate to voice our opinions!

Seeking diversity

Many of us would like our congregation to become more racially diverse. Given the fact that we are tucked away in the leafy suburbs, accessible only by car, that is a challenge. But there is great diversity among us in many other ways, which you will discover when you get to know us.
